Dining rooms

The table everything
gets decided at.

A dining room is arithmetic before it's anything else — table size, seating clearance, pendant height. Get the numbers right and it's the warmest room in the house. Get them wrong and dinner is a queue.

Arithmetic

Your room decides
your table.

Not the other way round, however much you liked the eight-seater in the showroom. We measure the space first and size the table to it — because a round eight-seater needs a diameter most Bangalore flats simply can't give it.

900mm

Clearance behind every chair

750mm

Pendant above the table top

6 seats

The size most flats actually want

What makes it work

Six things between
a table and a meal.

A dining room is arithmetic long before it's atmosphere — get the numbers wrong and no centrepiece saves it. These are the six things standing between a table you bought and a meal that actually works.

01

Table sizing

Under the tablecloth

The building work
a good dinner hides.

01

Lighting circuits

Pendant and ambient, split

The pendant over the table and the room's background light run on separate dimmers, so homework-bright and long-dinner-low sit one switch apart.

02

Floor under chairs

Guarded against the daily drag

Chairs dragged in and out a thousand times a year chew a soft floor. We spec a scratch-tolerant surface here and pad the legs so it never wears a halo.

03

Kitchen air

Smells kept from settling

An open kitchen fires cooking smells straight at the dining. We plan the exhaust and a cross-draught so the room doesn't hold last night's fry.

04

Server power

A discreet point at the buffet

One socket at the crockery unit for a hot plate, kettle or warming tray, so serving a crowd doesn't mean a lead trailing in from the kitchen.

05

Wall load

Fixings sized to a full unit

A loaded crockery or bar unit weighs far more than it looks. We fix into something solid, not bare plasterboard, so a full cabinet stays on the wall.

06

Acoustics

A hard room, softened

A dining zone is all glass, stone and tile — it rings. A rug underfoot or a soft drape nearby takes the clatter out of a big, noisy meal.

Three ways to seat it

Round, long, or
part of the room.

01

Round

Four in a tight room, no corners to walk into and everyone can see everyone. Stops being practical much past six.

02

Rectangular

Six seats and up — the honest answer for a family. Sizes cleanly against a wall or floats in an open plan.

03

Open-plan

The dining folded into the living space — no wall, just a defined zone with its own light and its own 900mm of room.

In motion

The room fills up
around the food.

A dining table is the one piece of furniture the whole house gravitates to — homework at four, dinner at eight, the long conversations after. The lighting is wired so the same table carries all of it.

The numbers

Four measurements
nobody checks until it's built.

900mm behind every chair, 600mm of elbow per person, 750mm to the pendant, 450mm from seat to top. Miss any one and the room fights you at every meal — so we set them on paper before a single piece is ordered.

  • 900mm walkway behind every seat
  • 600mm of elbow room per person
  • Pendant at 750mm — above the eyeline, below the glare
  • 450mm seat-to-top so you're not eating hunched

Storage

Where the good
plates actually live.

A crockery unit isn't decoration — it's the reason the table stays clear. Closed below for the everyday, glazed and lit above for the set you were given at your wedding and use twice a year.

Closed shutters below for daily chaos

02

Glazed, lit shelves above for the display pieces

Not sure what size fits?

Send us the room dimensions and how many you seat on a good day — we'll come back with the largest table that won't make dinner awkward, and what it costs.
